For students who did not achieve a satisfactory grade for this quarter, we are providing you with a chance to recover your grade to a passing score to better assist you with your studies. Teachers of the math department feel that it is essential for all students to have a firm grasp on mathematical concepts as the subject of math builds upon itself with every grade level you advance.
The work you will be accomplishing will be closely monitored and assessed so that you are being guided in both a timely fashion and geared towards your betterment as a student. You will be required to accomplish tasks to their fullest extent to be given the opportunity to take an assessment. The reason for this is that we need to ensure that you have properly prepared for the upcoming assessment, so that you may have the successful results that you are aiming for. DIRECTIONS: ALL Students needing to complete GRADE REPAIR to repair your grades for the first quarter, must complete all assignments below, in the order given. To achieve a passing grade, you must receive a 80% on each assignment. We will monitor your progress closely and let you know which assignments you need to move to and when you are done.
UNIT 1 - Real Numbers
Assignment (IXL) 8.NS.1 Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers. 8.NS.1.2 Use rational approximations of irrational numbers to compare the size of irrational numbers, locate them approximately on a number line diagram, and estimate the value of expressions (e.g., pi2). 8.EE.1 Work with radicals and integer exponents.
8.EE.1.3 Use numbers expressed in the form of a single digit times an integer power of 10 to estimate very large or very small quantities, and to express how many times as much one is than the other. 8.EE.1.4 Perform operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation, including problems where both decimal and scientific notation are used. Use scientific notation and choose units of appropriate size for measurements of very large or very small quantities (e.g., use millimeters per year for seafloor spreading). Interpret scientific notation that has been generated by technology.
